Call for Entries: H.E.A.T. to Honor Patrol Officers

The Virginia Help Eliminate Auto Theft (H.E.A.T.) Program announces Operation Summer H.E.A.T. 2010, an awards program designed to turn the HEAT up on auto thieves during the peak months of auto theft - June, July, and August. The H.E.A.T. Program will recognize outstanding achievement for auto theft arrests and vehicle recoveries made during the summer of 2010 The Top-Fifty Officers with the highest combination of auto theft arrests and vehicle recoveries will be presented with awards.

Arrests and recoveries made from June 1, 2010 through August 31, 2010 will be considered to determine winners. Arrests and recoveries for thefts of vehicles licensed to operate on the highway, construction equipment, and marine vehicles count in Operation Summer H.E.A.T. 2010.

The Operation Summer H.E.A.T. 2010 awards competition is open to Virginia law enforcement officers assigned to patrol. To apply, patrol officers must submit documentation of auto theft arrests and recoveries made between June 1, and August 31, 2010, with a nomination form signed by their supervisor.

Nomination forms should be submitted by September 30, 2010 , to Mary Neathawk, Neathawk Dubuque & Packett, agency for the H.E.A.T. Program, 1 East Cary Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219. Fax (804) 783-0098. Awards will be mailed to winners by November 1, 2010.

The Virginia Help Eliminate Auto Theft Program was established in 1992 to reduce Virginia's auto theft rate. Citizens are encouraged to provide auto theft related tips through the 1-800-947-HEAT (4328) Hotline. Tips are forwarded to the jurisdiction where the crime was reported to have occurred for investigation. Tips leading to arrests make the callers eligible for cash rewards up to $25,000.
