The Virginia State Police and the Norfolk Police Department will conduct Help Eliminate Auto Theft (H.E.A.T.) and Insurance Fraud (IFP) Programs sponsored Advanced Auto Theft and Insurance Fraud Investigation training. Three Options for enrollment are available. Sworn law enforcement officers may select either of the three options. Special investigators working for insurance companies in Virginia may enroll in Option 3.

(Help Eliminate Auto Theft) Auto Theft Prevention (14 hours)
This course provides
information on how to prevent auto theft. Topics include Local/State auto
theft trends, Operation HEAT Wave, 100 ways to promote the HEAT Program,
Auto Theft Prevention strategies, auto theft prevention devices, VIN
(vehicle identification number) etching. Training will conclude will
participants conducting a public VIN Etching event. This event is cosponsored
by the State Police HEAT Program and the VCPA. Please contact the VCPA to check

Basic
Crime Prevention (40 hours)
This course provides
an introduction to opportunity based crime prevention. Topics addressed in
the course include: History & Theory of Crime Prevention; Crime
Prevention Law and Liability; Neighborhood Watch; Personal Safety;
Terrorism Awareness and Prevention, Business Crime Prevention; Security
Devices; Security Lighting; CPTED; Security Assessments (with an on-site
security assessment exercise) School Safety; Auto Theft Prevention; Fraud
Prevention and Crime Prevention Resources.
